The Parish of Ponteland

2017 Events

On Saturday 4th March we held a spring clean at the church. Both the inside and the outside were dusted, cleaned, polished, trimmed and swept. Thanks to all who took part, the church and churchyard is looking lovely now!

Father Bill presided over the Easter Sunday service at Holy Saviour. The church looked radiant with it's spring flower displays.

On Saturday 20th May we held a plant sale at the church hall.

On Saturday 3rd June the Tyneside A Capella choir presented 'A Summer Serenade' concert in support of the Guide Dogs and raised a magnificent £830.60. The concert was a huge success and was well attended by both two legged and four legged supporters!

On Wednesday 5th July we held the induction service to install Rev’d Captain Paul Allinson into the benefice of Ponteland. Bishop Christine led the service along with local, Diocesan and Deanery clergy. The service was very special and attended by congregations from Paul's previous parishes and by noted members of Ponteland along with our own congregation. We all wish Paul the very best in his new position in Ponteland parish.

They say that 'many hands make light work', which was proved when lots of people turned up on Sunday afternoon to help clear the mess that's amassed over the last year and to fill two skips with garden detritus. The Vicarage garden is now getting back to its lovely old self - Thank you all for your hard work.
We are blessed in Ponteland to have many 'do-ers' in the congregation, people who will roll their sleeves up and help in any way they can to ensure the smooth running of the Parish, and in doing so, bear witness to the love of our Lord Jesus Christ.
Being a Christian is not just about turning up on a Sunday morning and singing a few hymns - it's about fellowship, love for each other, patience and standing by those in need; giving of our time and talents to spread the Word.

On Saturday 30th September we held a MacMillan Coffee morning and raised £293. The 'Name the Puppy' competition  was won by Rosie, who coincidentally recently said goodbye to her own dog. The prize will be awarded to her grand-daughter.

On Tuesday 17th October we Holy Saviour, Milbourne celebrated their harvest festival with an evensong accompanied by the choir. The church was packed and afterwards everyone had a scrumptious buffet at Lucy Barnett's wonderful house. A lovely evening of worship, song and friendship.

Bible Society Lunch at United Reformed Church, 9th October 2017.

Coffee Club Lunch at the Blackbird,18th October 2017.

We had a very interesting evening in the company of Mrs.Siti Hill, who spoke of Christianity in the Middle East.   She drew on her early life in Singapore and the significant changes brought about by her marriage to Martin, a Christian. She became a Christian.  Her experiences and insight enabled her to tell us about the differences in Muslim countries, such as Saudi Arabia and Dubai.  Siti then showed us some of her garments, which were most attractive. The plaque is The Lord's Prayer, in Arabic. The trio in the photo are Joan Howell, Siti Hill and Margaret Young.

On 9th December the Royal Northern Sinfonia performed the Baroque Christmas by Candlelight concert. The concert was well attended and enjoyed by all.
